I also have had issues with touch pad, as well as experienced shut-downs (and not turning back on). When buying, I thought - hey, it's the hardware that counts, no? Well, apparently, not so much, if the outside is breaking apart. Mine broke just half a year after I bought it. The housing material for most ASUS laptops is horrible, and this model is no exception - it is made from very thin, cheap, nasty plastic.
For me, I would say go with Acer or some other brand.
